History

These images were originally developed by Eric Timmons (@daewok on Github and Docker) to provide a common development environment for his teammates. The first image was an omnibus-like image (similar to the current cl-devel image). He then began actually understanding Docker best practices and developed the individual implementation images. He used these images largely for CI/CD purposes.

In late 2020, he became aware of the CLF's desire to better support CI tooling for multiple CL implementations as well as the urgent need to get ASDF's CI running again after the crash of its Jenkins server. These images were quickly adopted into ASDF's CI pipeline. The CLF then offered to host the images on a CLF maintained Docker Hub organization, with the desire to make them more visible, more trusted, and more resilient in case daewok was ever unable to continue maintaining them.
